SMLE in .44 Magnum

We've seen SMLE conversions to .45ACP and 7.62x39, but how about one in .44 Magnum? My hobby-table measurements indicate that the .44's rim and case should work easily with the .303's geometry. A Jungle Carbine length/weight gun in .44 Mag could be a great deal of fun to shoot.

.444 Marlin should work, too.

I'd expect a shorter action would work better. But then, I also expect the SMLE is a lot cheaper. I think I'd want to do a pressure comparison with the .444/.303. Not just the working pressures, but the load on the bolt head.

My memory of the SMLE action isn't real clear, I don't recall there being much metal in the front ring area. Yeah, I know the bolt lock at the rear.

c'mon snake! Why aren't you converting one to .22 long rifle? You know you want to.

I've seen em converted to .45-70, too. Though I have to admit, the .44 mag conversion would be pretty interesting. I seem to recall there being some kind of sight discrepency with the .45cal convos. Anyone ever come up with suitable iron sights?

You speak the truth! There were some .22 Enfield training rifles made, but they're rare and spendy and parts are unobtainable.

I wonder how one could re-do the magazine for .44 Magnum?

There was an attempt to bring in a version in .45-70, .44 Mag should be easy.

Who likes the idea of the Enfield, but not the kick...I'll stick to my svelte velvet longarm, thank you.

You would need to convert it to accept a .44 magnum magazine (Ruger/Desert Eagle), the rest would be pretty straight forward. .45-70 is a very easy conversion, just re-barrel.
