Star .45 PS

I'm not too familiar with this site, and have just now registered. I own a star PS model manufactured in 1971. I have fired this weapon several times at the range and found it to be reliable but heavy. I take it hunting when I go to areas that may have dangerous predators - as well as bear spray - I also use it as a home defense weapon. This handgun is in excellent condition and was new when I received it from my uncle as a gift in 1972. I've kept it in good working order since.

The Star is a clone of the Colt 1911, but not an exact copy. While it's a decent pistol it can not use most Colt parts. Just enjoy your gift and welcome to the board.

you have to define "heavy" if your only frame of reference is a 9mm or a 22 of course you're going to find it heavy- for instance my 1911 is about 1/2 the weight of my hk 22 mk0
they become light enough under duress
also a heavy pistol absorbs recoil better

"heavy"

Used to carry a .44mag when backpacking out west. I recognize that "heavy" is a relative term, and in combat or under stress they both feel a lot lighter. Deployment was also a factor. Never much liked a 9mm - reliable, but I found it took too many rounds to achieve immobilization. I carried a 1911 when in the service (ship's landing party) Definitely did not consider it heavy then. Pros and cons notwithstanding; any shooter is better when it's in your hand when you need it.
