Rifle shooting high

I have a CMP Greek return, Springfield M1. Took it to the range and cranked in 8 clicks up. Shot at 200 yd. One hit out of 5 at very top of target. I moved down 4 clicks = still about 6 inches above bull. I ran the adjustment all the way down and still hitting about 2 inches above 10 ring. Any ideas?

Was this off a benchrest? If so, try shooting it from slung-in prone or sitting.

Also, see if you can measure the height of the front sight and compare it to another M1. Perhaps someone has filed it down somewhere along the line.

Yes, I was using a bench rest. Thanks for the tip, I will measure my other M1 and compare!

So is it all shots are high, or just a flyer per group?

Also, I wanna say Kensight makes Garand front sights of different heights and widths.

Factory ammo or home brew? You wouldn't happen to be using off-the-shelf 30-06 hunting ammo would you?

Measured my H&R and compared to my SA .0030 difference. That tells me that
there is something else wrong.
I used some Lake City, as well as some I loaded, about the same results,.

.003" isn't much (one or two sheets of paper). I didn't bother to measure the sight radius of a Garand but ballparking it at 30", a .003" difference will manifest itself as .72" at 200 yards.

Now if you meant .030", that would work out to 7.2" which sounds in the ballpark of what you experienced.

So,I took the front sight off and measured from the bottom of the base to the top of the blade. That measured .723. I have read that the norm is about .725.
If the norm is correct, then I am off 2 thousands of an inch,.

Loose lock up and a narrow barrel chanel can cuase this.
The end of the trigger guard should stop hard then alot of force taken to close it the rest of the way. I like mine to stop atleast 1/2 inch from closing.
Does rifle have a commercial stock? A narrow barrel channel is common with these stocks although it can happen with a USGI stock
Remove rear handguardset action back in stock with trigger guard installed. Make sure the barrel is not touching the barrel channel at the front. I like to see atleast 1/8 inch clearnace. It it touchs remove wood on both sides
You can also grind some metal off the bottom of the aperture so it will set lower in the sight base resulting in lower POI
