I noticed that I'd better post more information on my previous postings. The two serial numbers I posted long ago were on stripped receivers that I got from Armscorp USA at the National Matches.

Different, Armscorp uses a CNC engraving machine to mark the heel of the receiver. It sits in a fixture, then it goes to work. My guess is someone changed the engraver and didn't get depth set correctly.

That makes sense now.

WRONG SERIAL # on update

I just posted my 1987 rifle's serial # on 2/3 but on your update you added an extra zero (A000).

Correct # is A00966

Hell, never understood the X-out serial paranoia anyway!

Armscorp Receiver, Marked as:
US RIFLE
7.62MM XM25
1728X

Purchased as a stripped, rear lugged receiver from Armscorp on 07/29/06.

I know that some of these rifles were marked with inscriptions other than "M14" for sale to/in communist states, however, is/was there such a real M14 type of weapon that was an "XM25"?

Danny, the U. S. Army developed the XM25 from 1986 to 1988 to update/upgrade the M21. The XM25 was classified as the M25 in 1991. It is used by U. S. Army Special Forces and U. S. Navy SEALs as a sniper team observer weapon.

My Armscrop has the A0070xx perfix why did some have it and other's didn't in this range. Could it stand for rifles built by Armcrop of America and not sold as stripped receivers.

Fred, that is an excellent question. I thought the same myself until I was recently enlightened by Claude Rankin at R A Parts, parts house for Armscorp USA.

The letter "A" prefix on some Armscorp receivers denotes a particular design of the receiver. Claude wasn't more specific but he did say that there were some stainless steel receivers made by Armscorp of America. Those are denoted by the letter "S" as a prefix in the serial number.

Armscorp DOB 05/11/06 S/N 17396
I purchased my Armscorp as a barreled receiver, complete, less
the following:
*Trigger Group
*Flash Suppressor
*Stock
**A 'New Old Stock' USGI Chrome Winchester Barrel was furnished by me for the build.
Claude did the work.

I just picked up an NM Armscorp M14 that was purchased as a complete rifle in 1989 by the previous owner. Serial number is A005746. There is another number on the receiver below the wood line that may be of significance since the last 2 digits match the year it was made.

CANARIS, thanks for the photo. A few commercial receiver makers such as Smith Enterprise and Armscorp marked their receivers with the USGI part number for the receiver, 7790189. The USGI M14 receivers were marked the same way. Welcome, aboard!
