Re: M-14 receivers-Heaven yet???

The heel marking looks to be engraved. The lettering is too straight for bare-handed electropencil. I don't know if the heel marking will stay this way or change to a roll die stamping.

Re: M-14 receivers-Heaven yet???

Hi,
Well... That's not a terrible price for what will probably be a perfect receiver. Being a hobby blacksmith and knifemaker,I can't seem to get rid of the cast, barstock, forged scenerio out of my head. Forging redirects the grain structure so that it better supports any where there is a turn or change in direction on a work piece. The other thing that comes to mind is that there is not much change in direction in an M-14 receiver. Also the receiver is well supported by the stock in any type of configeration.
My gut feeling tells me that there would not be enough of a difference in strength between a barstock and forged receiver in this application to matter?
