Which model ACOG for the M14

I currently have an Eotech on my M1A with a Smith Enterprise mount. Im not sure if it was a good choice since it has no magnification and is more suitable for an 5.56 AR platform.

I'm looking into getting an acog, specifically the TA33R-9 model. Is this a good choice for the M14 with the mount I currently have?

The ACOG you prefer has less than 2" of eye relief. Unless you've got one of the SEI mounts that extends all the way back to the rear sight, there's no way you can get close enough to the scope. Even with the extended mount, I think it'd be a stretch.

This is the current setup.

If that wont work, what do you suggest?

^ That pic has me wishing that I hadn't sold my Springfield! I know you want an ACOG on there, but that setup's screaming for an Aimpoint Micro T-1, in my very humble opinion.

If you're looking for a self illuminating scope, I'd suggest looking at their AccuPoint range. They've got more eye relief, and if you set them all the way back in the rings, the rear tube+ocular bell will get the eye piece a lot closer to your eye.

Or, if the ranging reticle is more important, take a look at the Rapid Reticle ( http://www.smithenterprise.com/products18.html ). It doesn't light up but the optics are first rate. With the zoom model, the ranging calibrations are correct at any zoom setting.

Re: Which model ACOG for the M14

I had a M1A with a lot of GI parts that I configured with an ARMS #18 (it was 2002, after all), and I topped it off with an Aimpoint CompML2 with a low ring. Tried it, and regardless of how low of a ring I bought, I couldn't get it low enough.

Seeing the EOTech on your mount made me think - the T-1's integral mount would put the optic so low that it would work better than just about any other (about where the buttons for your EOTech are located, I'd imagine).

So, just wondering if anyone has tried a T-1 or H-1 on theirs?

Re: Which model ACOG for the M14

Some time ago, I gave up on anything but a scope for my M1A. Currently, I use an ARMS 18 mount, and a Leupold 30mm 1.5-4.5X, with illuminated German #4 reticle.

It is just about perfect., and in a pinch, you can crank the variable ring down, and use the illuminated red dot as just that.
