i just recieved my SOCOM . with just 1 mag (20) shooting at clays from a hundred yrds with milsurp ball only hit one now not to sound all hotsy totsy but im deffinately a better shot than that! I didnt have any paper on the backstop to check grouping but i could tell where some of the new holes were and it looked like they were really scattered. Now that was just a quick outing, there is going to be some scope/sandbag time to see what the rifle can really do. My question is what would be the first thing some of you would do to improve accuracy out of a SOCOM. i have an all GI NM BUSH and a NM 22" that i can pop clays all day with.
as i understand it, the gas system on these is a little different. have any of you unitized the SOCOMs, any difference? i also just read a piece on another board about lapping the barrel. this guy did it on a bush/scout with a huge improvement also a substantial improvment by bedding it. has anyone measured any improvment by changing out the spring guide (flat) for one of Smiths (or equiv) round NM guides?
the weather has been CRUD and seems to be staying that way for a while so in the duration i will load up some match bullets and scope up the rifle and get out the sand bags. i was also wondering if anyone had considered/heard or tested before and after removing the scope mount from the barrel
Imagine that. I'm going to say "what Ty said", yet again.
IME, bedding is the #1 contributor to accuracy. A trigger job is the #1 contributor to letting me utilize the accuracy potential of the stick.
