M14 rifles in New York state?
I work for the Army and found out recently that I might be ordered to move to NY state. It will not be New York city, and should be somwhere around the southeren part of the state. I own an M1A and a Norinco M14 among some other guns including hand guns. I was wondering what gun laws they have out there, and how would it affect me? Any high cap mag laws? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

You can think of NYS now as essentially the same as the entire country during the 10-year period when the AWB was in effect. NY passed a law intended to mirror the federal AWB, but without the sunset provision. If your semiautos were preban legal or postban legal under the federal ban, they'll be legal in NYS. However, anything made post-sunset in what used to be called preban configuration is not legal in NYS.
As for magazines greater than 10-round capacity: If preban (i.e., pre-9/1994), they're NYS legal. If postban (e.g., LEO marked) or postsunset (current production), they're not legal in NYS.
As for handguns, you need a license even to possess them in your own home. Licensing is done on the county level outside of NYC.

That right there is worse then California... I refuse to voluntarily license any firearm.... In california they are automatically registered whenever purchased but I still do not like it much.
