shep854,

I believe that you are CORRECT. - I have formerly belonged to 2 boating sites which have MANY posts per day. Unfortunately, 99% of the posts were/are HOGWASH & BILGE and frequently FALSE.

I believe someone referred to this place as having a "low signal to noise ratio"...

If it was me, I certainly meant to say, "High signal to noise ratio." Though I have been occasionally chastised for hiding my signal under noise at times.

Who tries to post when not upset. SIGH...after the last election a difficult proposition.

It's OK, Geoff. We know what you mean.

Another nice thing about this site is the conspicuous lack of obsessive pedants...even the absent Mr Speir, though certainly pedantic, was fairly good at restraining himself.

BTW, my M1 is NOT dead; it's resting!

I suspect a misquote on my part.

Kevin Gibson; all,

I recently found out that my 35x130 ft ocean-going barge, (which I plan to convert into a HOUSEBOAT for a retirement home & power with a slow-speed diesel inboard engine, so that the MV BELLE OF CHICAMAUGA does not have to be moved with a tugboat from anchorage to anchorage & which is to be "flagged" in Belize) because of her GROSS TONNAGE can LAWFULLY mount a single "ships gun" to ward off PIRATES, under international maritime treaties.
Furthermore, the crew of such a MV can LAWFULLY be armed with individual weapons against "boarders".
(This means that my treasured M1 Garand, which I thought had to be left in the USA, as Costa Rica does NOT allow "military arms" to "under most circumstances" be possessed by civilians, can lawfully be "part of the vessel's complement of authorized arms".)

I wonder what sort of CANNON to buy & mount aboard? =======> CHUCKLE.
(The late Bill Ruger HAD a "ships gun" MOUNTED ABOARD his private yacht. When he arrived in port at Washington, DC, the DC government & Metro Police "had a screaming fit" BUT could do NOTHING whatever about his fully-functional, four-inch bore, breech-loading naval rifle, asshe was "flagged" in Panama.)

In case anyone is wondering, the BELLE OF CHICAMAUGA will make about 15.5kts at "hull speed" & should cruise (read: "just ghost along", once moving) about 8-9kts @1,000RPM, making neither much "wake" or noise.

yours, sw

Defending the MV BELLE OF CHICAMAUGA now if you have a spare 10 million euros or so a 57mm stabilized turret and appropriate NATO standard fire control system comes to mind.
Geoff
Who is currently in the financial doldrums and the estimated 3500 hit from the tax cut elimination is not gonna help.

Skeptic49,

CHUCKLE.

As you've doubtless guessed, I'm planning on BUILDING a houseboat because on my modest pension I cannot afford to BUY one, so expensive cannons are OUT.

I just think that it's amusing that it is LAWFUL & I enjoy tweaking the collective noses of the leftist, "anti-self-defense leftists", whenever possible.
Bill Ruger's making the DC government lose what little mind that they collectively have amused me no end. - My brother-of-the-heart was present (and working for Mr Ruger) and still LOL over all the "flailing around" that the DC government did, while trying to figure out some way to charge Mr Ruger with some/any criminal act, even though his ship's gun was FULLY LAWFUL.
(otoh, I am pleased that, under the maritime treaties, I can law lawfully import/possess/use my Danish Garand when i retire to CR, this year, if I declare it to be part of "the vessel's defense equiptment".)

BUT having said that, I will also tell you that a gentleman in Prince William County, VA owns a "minature" pre-1898 German-made, breech-loading, "naval rifle" that has a 2.5" bore, which has a barrel about 3-3.5ft long & that looks like that it would be FUN to shoot. = Downright NIFTY little cannon that one is!
(The same gentleman also has a small Finnish-made cannon on a field carriage, that is fully functional and fires 4guage shotshells.- That little gun IS really FUN to fire. - He allowed a group of us to fire it, on his private range, several times on Veteran's Day in 2006! - I asked him what the little piece was designed for & he said that he didn't know BUT to was "just too neat not to buy", as a "big boy's toy".)

yours, sw
