I don't believe that the M8A1 scabbard was even in production during WWII, was it? Could this be a real M4? The paper it's wrapped in is more suggestive of the 1960's than the 1940's. When were the last M4s made by PAL? It looks like perhaps 1960s manufacture.

The M8A1 was produced during WWII and after, the WWII scabbards don't have the metal tip. Pal's last contract was completed in May 1945. It may have been repackaged at some point but it's a legit WWII set up.

PS It's not my auction.

I own several "in the wrap" bayonets and knives from the WWII era. They are scarce, however from time to time become available.

The scabbard is legit. The confusion comes from some thinking the M8A1 designation indicates a metal tip.

The M8 was used with the M3 trench knife.

The M8A1 was the addition of the M1910 belt hook on a longer web hanger. Some M8A1's were M8's that were modified, some were made with left over M8 throats, and some were the newly marked M8A1. All this occured during WWII production and none of them had the metal tip protector.
