Glock or Beretta

Which one do you like better and why. I my self own a 92Fs and would take it any day over a Glock. That's why the U.S. military use them (although I think many people want a .45).

I don't care for the way Glocks feel in my hand. We have a couple of Berettas and several Beretta look-alikes (clones)! They are just fine.

SK 89,

Man that is a tough question and much will fall back to personal prefference on the caliber as well as fit and comfort.

Personally I have only handled one Glock that felt right and that was after a pricy conversion done by Rob Arms in SLC, Utah.

The 92F even though it may be issued the general feelings are that is a few notches above throwing a rock or pointy stick. Most wish they would return to the 45 ACP.

Please, I mean no disrespect and I will admit maybe a bit of predudice towards the 45 ACP and 1911 package

Best advise I can offer is take some time and handle them all. Just because a 1911 feels good to me doesn't mean the same for you or LFox.

Different grips fit better in different mitts. If you buy something only later to find it just doesn't feel right, you wont shoot it.

Sorta like buying this great pair of shoes only to find out 3 days later they are never gonna be comfy......Where do they sit......Maybe LFox can answer that question

I vote for Beretta.....I looked at a lot of Glocks before I bought my Beretta 96FS, and none of them really held my attention for very long. I once had a Colt 1911A1, and although it was a fun gun to shoot, it wasn't very accurate.

I feel with the Beretta 96FS, I got the best of both worlds....I got the M92, and I got it in a better chambering....the .40S&W

ive owned a g35 and loved it till i droped it "once" on carpet and the rear adj site moved. i told myself that if i can push it back with mere thumb pressure im gettin rid of it. well i was able to push it back and forth so i traded it for a sa 1911a1 and never went back, probably will never go back to any "wonder gun". plus, i dont like a gun that gives me second thoughts. thats the only experience ive had with glock aside from shootin a friends g22 here and there. personally bereta feels like butter to me. a glock feels like a brick. both extremely accurate and reliable out o' the box. beretta baby beretta

I own a G21. Very good pistol. No interest in the Beretta. Their reputation (or lack thereof) has preceded them.

i believe beretta was making cannons in the 1640's or 1460's. anyway they have plenty of great rep. a lack of which i do not see...

The Glock is used by many more LEO agencies in the US than a Beretta or any other design. When I was visiting Washington D.C. this summer and I walked around the White House, and I saw a few SS agents. what pistol were the Secret Service agents carrying? Why a Glock of course! Not to mention the US Customs Service, and the Capitol Police as well. Almost every local PD in my immediate area issues Glocks. If Glock had been given a chance in the US military trials, i'm sure it would have been selected instead of the M9. Plus its 17rds vs. 15 for the Beretta is a boon as well. It is a much simpler design, not to mention easier to clean and disassemble. The rental Glock at my local range is a 1st gen. G17 that has had many thousands of rounds fired through it by many people, and is "occasionally" cleaned. It still has the original barrel, and it is quite accurate. The only repair it has had in many years of use was the replacement of the recoil spring.

We need to get it out of our head that plastic does not=bad. In the future, it is quite possible that new plastics will be invented that will be as strong or stronger than steel, and all our old, backward notions will be moot. A plastic gun seems strange to us because guns have always been made out of some kind of metal, so we think that a gun has to be made of metal to be good! We seem to overlook the fact that metal was the only practical thing to make guns out of, not necessarily the best! Its just the last few decades that we have developed better, and more stable plastics, and they are getting better every year and there is no reason to not incorporate them into the design of things to come.

Just think, in a few decades, I will be the old-timer, telling the young'uns that a Glock is a real mans gun, made back when guns were made right, and the newfangled super-duper rayguns are just some overly technical uberweapon that arn't worth considering. And gosh! Its quantum de-stabilizer output is only 9 megawatts!!! How could anyone trust their life to anything less than 45 megawatts! . (sounds familiar?) [/rant]

I love my Beretta 92G, its very accurate and never misses a beat. But when I go out and carry concealed I almost always holster one of my Glocks, especially a Glock 19.

The Glocks are slimmer, lighter and just great to carry. Personally I like the feel of the Glocks. I also carry Sig Sauer, Kimber, HK and........ but like I said I usually end up with a Glock on my side.

Too many great guns, not enough time......or $$$$$$.

bubba,
Just heard that the M9 did poorly in the desert warzones. Didn't mean to insult Berreta lovers.

Its true, but its funny that they didn't report problems with the M9 like that in the '80's or in Desert Storm. And Lynch's whole squad having problems at the same time when they were overrun?

Sounds like very poor maintenance, leadership and the fact that these are not Combat Arms Units. I haven't heard any reports come from Infantry or Special Forces Units. Nothing out of Afghanistan from the Rangers or Green Berets like that. Biggest problem they reported was with other gear and the short range of the 14.5" barreled M4.

At infantry school the Berreta was brand new issue and the Rep. poured sand all over it while a Staff fired it. I carried one all over the world and I still rely on my 92G.

Some of the mags they had problems with were cheap imports, sound familiar?

A clean and well maintained weapon is a happy weapon !!!

Tula is correct with this statement.

But, when the Glock was new and fresh on the scene it was Beretta that was carried by more Police depts. in the U.S. than any other sidearm.

Glock broke into the LE business by giving away their pistols. We took in alot of police trades when IPD and various Counties went to the Glock. They gave a new M17 or M19 w/ 5 mags and an extended service contract, armorers school and weapons training for the depts. sidearm and all mags for around $300-$350. Thats when we sold them new w/ 2 mags for $419. Thats a steal counting all of the training and service alone.

Not knocking Glock, just pointing out their shrewd business sense.

And when depts. upgraded from the 9mm to the .40, Glock took their Glock 9's on trade and rebuilt them in Armorers school after shooting them in the training classes. They put on new sites, finish, replaced a few internals(extracter, mag latch etc...) as needed and resold these as used but with a full factory warranty. I have had a few of these over the years and they were like new but sold for about $65.00-$100.00 less than a new one. These used preban mags have a "U" stamped on the backside under the count holes next to the "AUSTRIA" stamp, right above the floorplate.

Sorry about the rambling, but before Glock, Beretta was the "premiere" LE sidearm in the U.S.A.

I've never had a bad experience with either, and I'm actually looking at a G21 at the shop now. I'm not crazy about the 92fs, or any 9mm for that matter, but I do like the way they shoot, if not a little "pop gun" feeling. It's personaly preference, try before you buy. Hold them both, see how they feel, how you like the sight picture. Weight, etc. If you can, fire off a boxx of ammo through each you're considering to see which one will be the clear cut winner.

Last time I checked glock had 65% of the LE sales in the US. That is because they offer them at a very low price, which is obviously attractive. Even with that in mind, a lot of departtments around here have switched to Sigs, including the state police. After beretta issued the Vertec, I have seen more LEs wearing them.

The Indiana State Police still issues the Beretta 92G, w/ nite sites. Indianapolis PD issues the Glocks. My county has issued: S&W, Sig, Beretta and now Glocks. Alot of them are not happy with any of them. You just cant please some people at all. They have had some of the finest handguns available and never have been satisfied !!!!

Why not a BFR in 45-70, and really have a crew-served sidearm!
