Has anybody rebarreled a Steyr M95/34?

I have a M95/34 straight-pull with a less-that-smooth bore. I am considering a rebarrel to .375 JDJ. But not if it is going to cost too much.

Has anybody here (not necessarily Mr. LaRocca) rebarreled one of these, and if so, how much did it cost, was it tricky, anything special, etc.?

Thanks in advance

delloro, aside from the changing of the barrel and the other stuff you'd do to it (headspacing, etc.), what would be involved in a cartridge conversion?

apparently very little. I ran across an years-old post on the net where people have converted these to 7.62 x 54R and .30-40 Krag. The 444 Marlin looks to me like a fit. the .375 JDJ should fit too.

the only issues would be feeding, I think flat points on 444 Marlin would not feed, though pointy 375's may. the threads on the barrel are 1.020 x 14 or something else standard, and there don't appear to be any complicated machining cuts like the K31 has. Midway has 375 blanks for $60.00 right now. If I could get a blank turned, chambered and installed cheap enough, I would try it, but I don't want to sink a lot into an unknown.

I just remembered, a friend of mine is really big into M95s and he is going to attempt to rechamber his for .45-70 once he gets the time and tools.

Do you know someone with a high tech lathe? Maybe you could remove your barrel, get them to measure the critical dimensions and turn you one themself. Then all that is left is chambering. Pull through reamers maybe?
