I've been trying to find a way to ask this diplomatically due to their high price and haven't been successful so, what's up with these shoddily-fitted Dan Wesson Beavertail Grip-Safeties?

So far I've seen three of these, two online and one a friend brought to me for some work. It looks for all the world like they just rammed the tangs into a Vertical Sander, filed the meeting edge on the Grip safety flat, fitted the bow-release and called it good. On two of them, the lines on the top of the grip-safety and the tangs weren't even blended even.

At the price-point of these 1911s( Starting around $1,600.00), this is horrible!

I'll try to post some pics of these.

No it wasn't fired in a Glock:rolleyes:

Another reason to only keep one caliber of ammo on the bench at the range.

S&W 1911 in 45 wound up with a 40 (wife was shooting the P239) in the magazine and it not only fired and ejected but completely cycled the slide and loaded the next 45 shell.

It felt like a squib load.

Taurus 2012 Full Line Catalog

It looks metal framed too! Would this be good for the arthritic set as more than a .22LR but less than a .38 Special mid-range wad cutter.

Given the relative high cost of .380 compared to 9x19 and .38 special...humm.

Thought I'd pass this on. I bought one of the Revolution holsters for my M&P9 as a inexpensive way to tote it while doing various things. It stands a wee bit far from the body to be used for concealment where it might really matter, but works well for a knockabout holster that you can hide with a loose jacket/shirt if required.

Anyway, the other night one of our stud colts spooked going into the barn and both knocked me flat and then ran over me. The holster retained and protected the piece through my acrobatics, suffering only very minor scratching that you have to look for to find. Both gun (chock full of rock dust) and holster came through much better than I did, but Alieve and hot showers took care of me.

Should anyone care to repeat the test with the holster of their choice, I will cheerfully provide the colt, you can be your own test dummy.

Browsing through a Brownell's catalog, I found for sale some extra long pipe cleaners marketed as "gas tube cleaners".

Browsing through a Brownell's catalog, I found for sale some extra long pipe cleaners marketed as "gas tube cleaners".

Now back in the last century when I was issued and carried an M-16 or the grandpa of the current M-4, we were taught to clean the barrel, the chamber, the bolt carrier, the bolt and wipe out the crud on the inside...oh yeah, and to pull the buffer and spring out once in a while and wipe it down with an oily rag. But nobody never, ever said we had to clean the gas tube.

I guess it makes sense...it carriers exhaust gasses back to the bolt carrier, and we know how dirty that can get. But is it really necessary for most shooters? And are these pipe cleaner like things the way to go? Any possibility of one maybe breaking off a small piece and blocking your tube? Are there better ways to accomplish this?

Silly questions, I suppose...but just trying to update my admittedly out-of-date knowledge on the care and upkeep of my new toy.

After lusting after one for quite a while, I finally stuck a crow bar in my wallet and bought an M-4.

I picked up a Rock River Arms, A2 receiver, fixed tubular stock with some kind of neoprene like coating (we'll see how that holds up), free floated barrel with a tubular aluminum fore stock (no rails), and one of the best triggers I've ever felt on an over the counter AR platform rifle. The trigger group, particularly the hammer, is different from any I've ever seen. Don't know if it's made in house or out sourced.

Sure seems like a very well made gun...tight, no tool marks visible on the inside of the receiver. I'm very happy. Everything you need, nothing you don't. NOT tacticool.

Gonna shoot it this weekend, weather permitting.
