German army dress belt "GOTT MIT UNS"?

Any belt and buckle experts out there?
I am almost shure that this is 100% original complete belt.
This is a army dress belt, made early in WWII.
Notice the leather protection against the dress inside the belt.

The old man i got it from has kept it like this since 1982. It is remains from German troops stationed in Neiden in Finnmark north in Norway. Lots of different stuff was left behind.

Thank you!

The only thing I can recall (and I don't know from where) is that the phrase "Gott mitt Uns" means "God is with us" and was adopted as the motto of the German army in 1871.

It is a little odd to me Hitler would have allowed it to continue the motto (unless he was never aware of it in the 1st place which seems odd as he sereved in WW1) since he once stated "you can't be a good Christian and a good German at the same time."
I'm afraid I don't know anything beyond that ... not being a belt buckle expert....

Interesting as Himmler allowed members of the SS to be of any religious denomination but disallowed atheists.

Hitler forced the church to adopt numerous Nazi symbols to keep the ... "ideals" of Nazi-ism in front of the churchmembers. He would have destroyed the institution but he realized it was too strongly planted inside european culture at the time, and even Hitler knew he couldn't fight every battle simultaneously, he needed to prioritize some things. The church was not highest on his list.
I'm not sure Hitler was an atheist ... his disdain for Christianity was nothing compared to his disdain for Judiasm and just because someone has some problems with organized religion doesn't make him an atheist by default.
My own father was like that; due to an incident in his youth he had no use for the church .... but he did believe in a diety.

Yes but the Nazi's didn't consider Judiasm on religious grounds but strictly as a race.

Absolutely, it's more important how you "walk the walk" then whether you attend every week and make donations.

Many of the Founding Fathers were Deists.

Thanks, It is a Prussian phrase used by Wehrmacht http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gott_mit_uns - got this answer from Ben Evans, a collector in Great Britain:

Asle

Very nice Heer and belt set, both original, very nice eagle on the buckle, both belt and buckle in good condition but looks like the buckles catch is worn/broken, other than that very nice

Cheers
