Question about enfield jungle carbine

I just purchased a mint enfield jungle carbine in about 90%. Very cool rifle, it has all the lightening done to the receiver, barrel, bolt, bolt knob is hollowed out, rubber butt, etc. I had a question about the manufacturer. On the cross handle it has 1945, serial #BE29xx, and it has FMP stamped on it? I think it is a BSA but I am not sure. Think maybe it stands for Fraternity of Malayasian Police? If this is true does anyone have any info? Thanks alot!

BSA built JCs had the code "M47C" on the left side of the butt socket.. Your's may be a Fazakerly rifle. Not sure about the "FMP", I'll have to do a little looking in my books. I doubt it has anything to do with the Malay Police though.

From http://enfieldrifles.profusehost.net/ The serial numbers starting with the letter "B" were made by BSA at Shirley. If it starts with an "F" it was made by ROF Fazakerley. Can't really find anything on the FMP stamp but I think I have seen it before and don't know for shure what it means. Like SMLE said though. If it is a BSA rifle it should have a M47C stamping on the left side somewhere.

Thank you guys! It does have the m47c on the socket. I'm having a hard time seeing everything because it still has a lot of the green paint on the metal. Really appreciate your help! I just got done cleaning the old gal, and she sure is a sweet ride!

Ok so I am sitting on the couch watching tv thinking about your question. In this brilliant flash of clarity I remember where I have seen No5 jungle carbines with the FMP stamp on them. Mine does. Mine is a BSA manufactured rifle from 1945. It has the "B" prefix for the serial # and also the M47C stamp. Here is a picture of the reciever heal with my markings on it.

vf100ride,
That is exactly what I am talking about! The only difference I can see is mine is etched below the serial #, where yours is above the serial number. Font style is identical! Now for the $1000 dollar question: what does it mean?I will say one thing, I am glad to see another rifle stamped in this manner. I was beginning to think some bubba had stamped his initials into it!

BE is a correct s/n prefix for a '45 Shirley No5. Faz produced rifles generally had single letter prefixes until late production (late '46 or '47).

FMP = Federation of Malaysia Police. A great many of the later imports of No5s are from Malaysia where they were pretty extensively used from the Malayan "Emergency" of 1948-1960 on, especially by para-military Federation Police units.
