"The Shot," and what came after.

Worth a read.

Great read, David. If I had ever heard of the story I'd forgotten it.

Pilots face the same Catch-22 in regard to counseling: try to do the right thing and get help and it could end your career. Many...probably most...just continue to fly instead of seeking treatment.

I remember when that happened.

Hmmm. Who knew? But to make that shot against an armed mobile and hostile target is exceptional shooting, especially when one hasn't practiced at that distance.

And even more exceptional considering the fact that we all know the 9mm is an inadequate "man stopper".

There were two hits on the active shooter with issued ball ammo; one was to the shoulder, an in-and-out that caused no real damage. The kill shot caught him almost dead between the eyes, and shut him down right there.

Kinda like to think the Good Lord was tired seeing innocent people die at Fairchild.
