Very true. We used them to make stippling tools and I still have one or two.

Not to nit pick, but engine blocks are mostly cast iron ( or cast aluminum) which is much more brittle than cast steel.

I was curious how much an engine block would resist fmc bullets. If you shot at the side of a "V" type block, I was thinking the angles encountered by the bullet might upset it and deflect it.
Maybe one day I'll get a chance to test the theory.

Re: .30-06 AP will go thru...?

Shot at an old "bullet proof" kevlar vest at 25 yds with AP 30-06. The copper jacket split away at the entrance point, the tungsten carbide insert drilled cleanly through the trauma plate, front and back side of the vest and was never recovered from the backstop. Extremey disturbing results for anyone who wears a vest for protection.

Re: .30-06 AP will go thru...?

Aren't ballistic vests that are supposed to stop rifle bullets mad of a ceramic material?

I can see why wearing kevlar would be ... troubling ... if the shooter has a deer rifle but kevlar is really intended for pistol ammo, something uniform cops are more likely to encounter (IMHO).

Re: .30-06 AP will go thru...?

The typical vest would not even slow down an 06 AP round.

I'm not sure that one suitable for all day wear would either.

The general construction of a standard vest would be multiple layers of Kevlar fabric covered with cloth. Most now have a pocket into which a trauma plate can be inserted to cover the heart and upper chest. The plates are usually made of a ceramic material

Re: .30-06 AP will go thru...?

It would take ceramic plate or scale armor to stop an AP. Anything less wouldn't even slow it down.
