147 FMJ-BT or 150 FMJ for 30-06 Garand

M-80 147 FMJ-BT or M-2 150 FMJ is best for the M-1 Garand? All Mil-Pulls

I have used both, but noticed no diffence, any ideas or sujections will be more than welcome! Have a good weekend!

Actually the 150gr M2 bullet is a flat base and that is all I use in my Garands for FMJ bullets.

I say the 147 is better because it carries supersonic beyond 600 yards. I've pulled targets for Garand shooters using M2 Ball, and the groups were NOT pretty. Plus, it was hard to tell when my shooter had let one go! Impact area was about 100 yards back and until you're zero'd on your own shooter's bullet pit, it was hard to tell WHO had fired from impact. No bullet crack overhead and it was just hard to tell.

It seems to matter not one whit that the rounds are loaded to shorter OAL.

I always use the 147 grain BT----a bit easier to use when reloading. Have never noticed any significant accuracy difference between the M80 and the flat based M2 bullet.

Yeah, they are easier to load because I don't have to use a case expander. The Boat Tail bottom will expand the case for me when it is pressed in. Had some M-25 tracers that I had to expand the cases on.

I get very good (not great) accuracy with Horn 150 fmjbt. Pretty cheap. Much better than any surplus that I have found.

147's or 150's

I use the 150's for short lines and 168's or 173's for long lines.

Sounds like the 150s are better. I am surpised because 147 with the boat tails are supost to be more accureate. I just ordered 500 m2s because I already have 1000 147s, just to play around and see what my Garand does. Have a good weekend and thanks for what your help guys!

It's here in Holland a very commen saying that you should never use a boattail in a Garand, because the 150 flatbase is more accurate. Ofcourse, I did use 146 boattails, because the 150 FB's arn't around everyday, but the best result with my M1 I receive is when I use the M2 bullets or the 168 HPBT's.
